folding templates
There are so many ways to fold brochures and flyers- it can become confusing! To make it easier, we have developed a set of templates which can be used as a base for your artwork.
About the folding templates
Dashing Print's Indesign and Illustrator folding templates contain our 'fold' file. The 'fold' file has been set-up on the locked “Template_Layer” layer of the Indesign/Illustrator file. All you have to do is place your pdf file on the “File Layer” and create a new pdf file. The new file will include the 'fold'.
Template Colour
We have set all our 'fold' lines in Pantone colour 'Process Blue' and the colour name (or swatch name) is titled 'fold'. It is important that this remains unchanged.
About the 'fold' file
The 'fold' file on the “Template_Layer” is an indicator of where the job will fold. Please do not alter this file as it represents a pre-determined folded section.
Bleed
Ensure that you have a 3mm (minimum) of bleed where colour goes up to the edge (trim line).
Ordering
It is important for us to know which Dashing Print's folding template that you are using. Therefore, when ordering, please refer to the number that is on the PDF file name so that we can match up that template with your print job.i.e.: 4pp DL Fold 1b.pdf
4PP Folded Brochure
A 4PP brochure is made by folding your printed page in half. The result is a brochure with four panels or pages – two on the front and two on the back. All you need to do is select your starting size of your printed page below.

6PP Folded Brochure
A folded 6PP brochure has six panels or pages. You can get there by folding your printed page in a couple of different ways - don't forget to select your correct page starting size.
1. Roll: A 6PP roll fold is made by folding your printed page into thirds, we fold it inward in the same direction not once, but twice. You'll get a brochure with six panels or pages - three on the front and three on the back.

|
2. Z (Concertina): A 6PP concertina fold is created by folding equal parts of a printed page infront and behind itself. Each fold opens in the opposite direction to its neighbour - giving a pleated or concertina effect. Your brochure will have six panels or pages - three on the front and three on the back.

8PP Folded Brochure
It's time to get into some serious folding! 8PP brochures have eight panels or pages in total - how you get them is up to you.
1. Roll: An 8PP roll fold folds your printed page inward at one end and then inward again - three times in total. Once we're done, your brochure has eight panels or pages - four on the front and four on the back.

|
2. Z (Concertina): An 8PP concertina fold is made by back and fourth folds creating a pleated or concertina effect. You'll finish up with an eight panel or page brochure - four on the front and four on the back.

3. Gate: A gate fold is created by folding the ends of your printed page into the middle so they meet and then folding this folded page in half in the same direction. Your eight page brochure opens just like a gate!
4. Double Parallel: This is created by folding your printed page in half and then in half again in the same direction, so the folds are parallel to each other. The result? An eight panel or page brochure - four on the front and four on the back.
5. Back Opening Double Parallel: It's similar to a standard double parallel – only the second fold is folded in the opposite direction to the first. Sounds confusing! We fold your printed page in half and then in half again, but in the opposite direction.
